If you are looking for something snappy and light, don't go back to windows. Try Lubuntu, Xbuntu or something new Like Bodhi Linux (based on Ubuntu). Linux is not the problem just desktop bloat...
Have been looking at a few on "Gnome-look" but haven't had time to try any yet. thanks for the info.
I had to find a way to change the purple and orange stuff at boot up, no offence but I just don't like the combo. Themes are easy enough after logging but, changing the Plymouth boot colors and GDM...

Got 10.10 64bit from Distrowatch in about 15 min. but decided to do an upgrade that took just about an hour in the download part. even so I am pleased that any download is not painfully slow or...
Go 64bit, I did back in 9.04 with my wimpy old laptop. Now I have an I5 and 4GB with 10.10 (today) and it's going strong. I don't think that there is a speed difference unless you doing intense stuff...

I tried disabling Compiz but, no change. still a blank (black) screen on resume with on option but to power down.
I had not even heard of this issue, mine runs just fine on battery or AC and does not suspend on the transition. Just Updated to 2.6.31-17-generic however, after testing I still get a black screen...
No need to stop using Ubuntu all together just install 9.04 it suspended and Hibernated just fine. And I would recommend it for all who need this feature for the time being. though It seems sad...
bump! It seems no one is doing anything about this for 9.10
Sorry your having trouble, more information is needed. Are you dual booting? How many partitions do you have? What file system is being used? and so on.
It is a good thing to let old "XP" die. Otherwise it will be the only thing that masses will ever know and compare everything too. Maybe if they have to learn something new ANYWAY, then it would...
Happy new Year! so will you call it twenty ten or two thousand ten? just curious.
It will not wipeout any partition or drive that you do not say for it to during the installation. Ubuntu has good NTFS read write capabilities. however if your going all ubuntu you could (after...
